Southern District 4/104 defeated by Port Adelaide 3/106
Port Adelaide have claimed their first win for the season in all competitions with a brilliant victory over Southern District.
The Stingrays won the toss and elected to bat first and got off to a promising start with opener Brandi Ongley (18) putting on 38 runs in an opening stand before Pratibha Kapoor (2/27) claimed two key wickets. Jess O’Reilly (44*) picked up the slack and led her team to a seemingly competitive 4/104 at the close of their twenty overs.
In reply, Port Adelaide got off to a horrific start losing both Chelsea Rundle and Kapoor for 0 to the bowling of Ongley (2/2). The Stingrays would’ve been confident of victory until former WBBL Sydney Thunder player Charlotte Anneveld (51*), in her first game for the club, partnered with Anureet Kaur (28) to seal the Magpies first win of the season in stunning fashion.
West Torrens 8/114 defeated Northern Districts 7/112
West Torrens have completed a stunning three-run win over Northern Districts in a massive game which sees the Eagles jump back into second spot.
West Torrens won the toss and elected to bat but immediately lost Kayla McGrath (0) which brought Angela Treloar (30) and Ellie Falconer (42) together. The two batters were cruising, combining for a 71-run second wicket partnership before Emma Faint (5/17) tore through the West Torrens middle order restricting the Eagles to just 8/114.
In reply, the Jets started strong as Brittany Perry (29) and Stephanie Beazleigh (23) had the score at 1/78 before a collapse saw Northern Districts fall to 7/97 thanks to an inspired spell from Laura Niejalke (3/10). Despite their best efforts, Kiara Stockley (5*) and Taylah Gregory (7*) couldn’t guide their team home as the Jets fell three runs short of victory.
Kensington 7/121 defeated Sturt 4/92
Kensington have claimed top spot on the ladder over Sturt with a strong all-round team performance.
The Browns won the toss and elected to bat with the top order of Eliza Doddridge (37), Kelly Armstrong (20) and Rachel Church (21) combining to get Kensington off to a good start. Despite a mini middle order collapse, the Browns finished their innings on 7/121 with Sarah Carver (2/12) and Amelia Rault (2/13) the best of the bowlers for Sturt.
