Matthew Adams – Sturt District Cricket Club
Sturt Under 16 White captain and opening bowler Matthew Adams is this week’s Junior Player of the Round after his decisive all-round performance in his side’s victory over Northern Districts. Adams controlled the game with the bat compiling a gritty 40 runs before dominating the game with figures of 5/27 from his allotted eight overs.
Sturt won the toss and elected to bat first but were in early trouble thanks to a compelling opening spell from Brodie Lee who claimed the first three wickets. Adams strolled to the crease with his team in trouble but took it all in his stride as he combined with Bailey Lord (13) and then Thomas Maloney (15) to give Sturt a defendable total. His determined captain’s knock of 40 saw the Blues finish their innings on 9/118.
In reply, it was Adams who continued his dominance on the game as he claimed 5/27 opening the bowling as the Jets were all out for 110, falling nine runs short of victory. Lachlan Faustmann chipped in with 2/17 with the ball but it was Adams who single-handedly gave the Blues this victory in his brilliant display with bat and ball.
He will be automatically included in the Junior Team of the Year and will be invited to attend a function at Adelaide Oval at the end of the season, acknowledging him and other nominees for their outstanding performances over the season.
